Research Interns (Geo-Economics) — Trade Flows & Route Stress Testing

We are recruiting two Research Interns to support an ongoing geo-economic project focused on trade flows, route fragility, and decision-making under stress.
This role is designed for candidates interested in how global trade actually functions when systems are disrupted—not in theory, but in practice.
What you’ll work on
Mapping trade routes, chokepoints, and rerouting decisions
Analysing friction points (ports, transit delays, insurance, compliance, capacity constraints)
Building decision trees around disruption: what breaks first, what is delayed, what adapts
Producing short, high-signal research notes, flow maps, and scenario briefs
What we’re looking for
Strong systems thinking (flows, bottlenecks, second-order effects)
Ability to sequence decisions under uncertainty
Comfort working with incomplete or imperfect data
Clear written reasoning (clarity > polish)
Backgrounds of interest: geopolitics, economics, IR, logistics, OSINT, risk analysis

Format
Time commitment: ~10 hours per week
Location: Remote
Requirement: Strong, reliable internet connection
Duration: 6–10 weeks (extendable)
Start: ASAP
Selection process
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to complete a brief cognitive challenge (10–15 minutes).
This is not a technical test. It evaluates reasoning, prioritisation, and judgement under stress.

Summer School in International Economics, by the Journal of International Economics

We have the pleasure to announce the fourth Summer School of International Economics for PhD Students, Advanced Master’s Students, Postdoctoral Researchers by the Journal of International Economics. The Summer School will take place at Bocconi University in Milan from 6 – 8 July 2026.

The initiative aims to bring together PhD students, Advanced Master’s Students from institutions worldwide and introduce them to frontier topics and techniques in international economics. The program features high-profile lectures by leading scholars in international economics and offers ample opportunities for participants to discuss ongoing research.
This year, we are pleased to have as instructors Cecile Gaubert (University of California Berkeley), Christoph Trebesch (Kiel Institut), David Hémous (UBS Foundation), Federica Romei (University of Oxford Hertford College), Christopher Clayton (Yale School of Management) and Natalia Ramondo (Boston University).

We welcome applications from PhD Students, Advanced Master’s Students, Postdoctoral Researchers in Economics from all geographical areas as well as diverse personal backgrounds. The deadline for the application is 25 January 2026.
